What Sawm does, screen by screen

Sawm is built around one question each day: are you fasting today? Everything else — the calendar, the Qada balance, the suggestions and the statistics — follows from your answer.

Imsak and iftar times

Your fast, at a glance

The home screen counts down to imsak before dawn and to iftar during the day, for the city you choose. Times are calculated by the method your country follows — Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, Diyanet in Turkey, the Muslim World League where no national method is listed — and told in that city's own time zone.

  • One tap records today as fasted or not fasted.
  • Your streak and your best streak, on the same card.
  • The Hijri date and the Gregorian date, side by side.

Hijri calendar

Every fast on the Hijri calendar

Every month in Hijri or Gregorian, with each fast you kept, missed or planned in its own colour, and the Sunnah days marked before they arrive: Mondays and Thursdays, the White Days, Arafah, Ashura and Shawwal. Ramadan, the two Eids and the days of Tashreeq are never offered as Sunnah fasts.

  • The Hijri date follows the date announced for your country, or an offset of up to two days that you set.
  • Plan a fast for a day ahead and get a reminder the evening before.

Qada tracker

Make up missed fasts

Missed fasts from Ramadan are kept as a balance for each year, and every make-up fast you record brings it down. The balance shows how many days are left before the next Ramadan and how many fasts a week will finish it in time.

  • Fidya, for days that cannot be made up, has its own tab.
  • A Qada reminder you can set for the days that suit you.

Smart suggestions

Smart suggestions

Sawm looks at the coming days and suggests the ones that suit you best: Sunnah days first, scored by the weekdays you prefer, how long the fast lasts in your city and, if you turn weather on, the forecast — a shorter or cooler day is easier to fast.

  • Each suggestion shows why it was chosen.
  • The free app looks 7 days ahead; Sawm Pro looks 14.

Watch your record grow

Totals for every kind of fast, your longest streak, a month-by-month chart of the year and your Ramadan performance, all worked out on your phone from your own record.

  • The free app shows your latest Ramadan; Sawm Pro shows every year.
