Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
We at Sawm (“we”, “our” or “us”) are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what the Sawm app and this website collect, what they do not, and why.
Your fasting record stays on your device
Sawm is local-first. The things you record live on your phone and are never sent to us:
- Local storage: your fasting logs, Qada balances, Fidya calculations, settings and progress are stored on your device. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, those records are deleted permanently. We recommend your device’s built-in backup if you wish to preserve them.
- Location: if you enable automatic fasting times, your coordinates are used on the device to calculate daylight hours, and are stored on the device. They are never transmitted to us. If you also enable weather-aware suggestions, your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo — rounded to four decimal places, with nothing identifying you attached — to fetch the forecast for that place. Turning weather off stops that, and the rest of the feature keeps working.
What the app asks our service
Sawm talks to one service of ours, at api.sawmapp.com. Nothing it sends carries your name, your email or any of your fasting records.
- The Hijri date for your country. So the calendar follows the date announced where you are, the app asks which correction your country is on. It sends the two-letter code of the country you chose (never your coordinates) and today’s date; if you chose no city, the server places you by your connection’s country instead. Turning Hijri auto-detect off in Settings stops it.
- Finding your city. When you search for a city by name, the app sends what you type to our service to find matching places. Without a connection it searches a list built into the app instead.
- Whether this version is still supported. When the app opens, it asks our service whether its version is still supported, sending the version and the platform. The request carries a random key created on your device when the app was installed: it identifies the installation, not you, is not your advertising identifier, and lets us count how many devices open the app. The same key lets a limited-time offer keep the same deadline on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes the key from your phone.
What is collected
Sawm shows ads and reports crashes, and those involve data leaving your device. We list them plainly here, and the same list is what appears on Sawm’s App Store privacy label:
- Device and advertising identifiers — used by Google AdMob to show ads, and used for tracking in Apple’s sense: they may be linked with data from other apps and websites to show you more relevant advertising. On iOS this only happens if you allow it when the app asks for permission to track. If you decline, Sawm requests non-personalised ads instead.
- Product interaction — anonymous usage events, so we can see which features are used and what to improve.
- Crash and performance diagnostics — so we can find and fix bugs.
None of this is linked to your identity. Sawm has no sign-in, asks for no name or email, and sets no user identifier, so this data is not associated with you as a person.
Accounts
The Sawm app does not require or offer account creation. You do not need to sign up or log in to use any feature, including buying and restoring Sawm Pro.
In-app purchases
Sawm offers optional Pro features. Payment is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play, and we never see your payment details.
To confirm a purchase is genuine, and so your membership survives a reinstall or a new phone, the app sends the store’s purchase token, the product identifier and the platform to api.sawmapp.com, which checks it directly with Apple or Google and records the resulting membership. That request carries no name, no email and no fasting data. This check happens on our own server rather than in the app because a membership check that runs on the device is not a check at all.
Advertising, and how to remove it
Ads are how the free version is funded. We use Google AdMob, which may also fill an ad through Meta Audience Network. Buying any Sawm Pro plan removes advertising entirely, and with it the advertising identifiers described above.
Third-party services
- Google AdMob, and Meta Audience Network through it — advertising. Removed by Sawm Pro.
- Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) — anonymous usage statistics and crash reporting.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing and purchase verification.
- Open-Meteo — weather and daylight forecasts, only when weather-aware suggestions are on. Receives coordinates and nothing else; no account, no identifier.
This website
sawmapp.com sets no cookies and runs no advertising. It is served by Google Firebase Hosting through Cloudflare, which process your IP address and request details in order to deliver the page; Cloudflare may count the visit with its Web Analytics, which sets no cookie and does not identify you. If you choose a language, the choice is kept in your browser’s storage and is never sent to us. If you arrived through a link with a campaign tag, the tag is kept in your browser for the visit and added to the store links, so the store can tell us how many installs the link brought.
Children’s privacy
Sawm is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The data described above is anonymous and is not linked to any individual.
Your choices
- On iOS, decline the tracking prompt to stop personalised advertising. You can change this later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- On Android, reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
- Buy Sawm Pro to remove advertising altogether.
- Uninstall the app to delete every fasting record it holds, since they exist only on your device. Deleting your data explains the rest.
