Sunnah fasting calendar
Sunnah fasting days in 2026
Every recommended fast of 2026 in one place: the White Days of each Hijri month, the Day of Arafah, Ashura and the six days of Shawwal — and the days on which fasting is not allowed.
Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. Where a month begins by local moon sighting it can start a day earlier or later, which moves every date in that month. The Sawm app follows the date announced for your country.

Mondays and Thursdays
2026 has 95 Mondays and Thursdays outside Ramadan, the two Eids and the days of Tashreeq.
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to fast Mondays and Thursdays regularly. These are the most common voluntary fasting days.
Dawood Fasting (صيام داود)
Fasting every other day (alternating days). This is considered the most beloved fast to Allah and was the practice of Prophet Dawood (David).
Friday on its own
Islamic tradition discourages fasting on Friday alone. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "None of you should fast on Friday unless he fasts the day before or the day after." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1985, Sahih Muslim 1144). If you wish to fast on Friday, it is recommended to pair it with Thursday or Saturday.
